Abdul Rahman Makki: Abdul Rehman Makki, the culprit of 26/11 Mumbai attack and deputy chief of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, has died due to heart attack. Makki was a relative of Hafiz Saeed and the head of the organization’s terror funding. He was declared a global terrorist by America and the United Nations.

Makki was included in the list of global terrorist. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) had listed Makki under the 1267 ISIL (Da’esh) and al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee. Because of this, his properties were frozen, along with a travel ban and a ban on possessing weapons.

Abdul Rehman Makki led the political wing of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Apart from this, he was also the head of Jamaat-ud-Dawa. He was also the head of the Foreign Relations Department of Lashkar. Abdul Rehman Makki was considered to have a direct role in major terrorist attacks in India.

Major terrorist attacks of Lashkar in India

Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba has carried out several major attacks in India, which are as follows.

  • Red Fort attack (2000): On 22 December 2000, 6 Lashkar terrorists entered the Red Fort and opened fire. Two soldiers and one civilian died in this.
  • 26/11 Mumbai attacks (2008): 10 Lashkar terrorists entered Mumbai through the Arabian Sea and fired indiscriminately. 175 people were killed in the attack.
  • Rampur attack (2008): On January 1, 2008, a CRPF convoy was attacked. 7 soldiers and one civilian were killed in this.
  • Baramulla attack (2018): Lashkar terrorists had killed three civilians in Baramulla on May 30.
  • Srinagar CRPF camp attack (2018): On 12-13 February, a suicide attack was carried out on the CRPF camp in Karan Nagar. One soldier was martyred in this attack, while a policeman was injured.
  • Bandipora Attack: The Indian Army foiled the infiltration attempt, but during this, 4 soldiers were martyred.
  • Shujaat Bukhari’s murder (2018):On June 14, Lashkar had killed Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari and his two security guards.

Makki was arrested in Pakistan on 15 May 2019. A Pakistani court sentenced him on terror funding charges in 2020. After his arrest, Makki was under house arrest in Lahore. However, now Makki has died, which can have a major impact on Lashkar-e-Taiba’s operations and terror funding activities.
