Pandemic Alert: A mysterious infection ‘Disease X’ has killed 79 people in Congo and about 376 cases have been reported. Congolese health officials are working day and night to find out the cause of this disease. Children have the highest percentage of infections, out of which more than 200 are children below five years of age.
The disease began in October in the Panzi health region of Congo’s Kwango province, where the first case was detected. Its symptoms include fever, headache, cough, breathing problems and anemia. Health officials are alert about this disease and its test results are expected within 48 hours.
Disease is estimated to spread through air
Health experts believe that this infection can spread through air. At this time, there was an outbreak of diseases like cold and cough in Congo, due to which the risk of its spread increased. Director of the National Institute of Public Health of Congo "Dieudonne Muamba" Said that to understand the spread of the virus, samples of patients have been sent to Congo’s Practical Labs for testing.
WHO and Japan expressed concern about the situation
This disease has worried many countries of the world. WHO has sent assistance to Congo, including experts, essential medicines and diagnostic kits. Apart from this, Japan has increased surveillance on people traveling from Congo and has advised to avoid traveling to this region.
Experts are monitoring the further situation
Health officials are continuously doing research to find out the cause of this disease and there is concern that this new virus may spread throughout the world. WHO and Africa CDC have provided technical assistance to Congolese authorities to monitor the epidemic so that the virus can be contained as soon as possible.
