Bangladesh Migrant Death: Every year, a large amount of people of Bangladesh go to another country in the lock of work. Most of these work in Gulf countries. After facing terrible circumstances in different parts of the world, many laborers are returning home to the coffins. In the year 2024, the body of Bangladeshi migrants from abroad returned to the country, which has reached a record level. According to the data of the Veg Arnors Welfare Board (WWB), the bodies of 4813 people working in other countries reached Bangladesh last year.
Bangladesh returned 4,552 bodies in 2023
According to Wewb data, this figure was 4,552 bodies in 2023. At the same time, in the year 2022, the bodies of 3,818 people working abroad returned to Bangladesh. This figure has been introduced on 14 January. The exact reason behind the death of these people is not yet clear. Many people have died at a very young age. From 1993 to last year (2024), Wewb found 56,769 bodies of Bangladeshi migrants.
‘Over times work’
Jasia Khatoon, director of the Welfare Association (WARBE) Development Foundation for the rights of Bangladeshi migrants, said that many Bangladeshi migrant people can be many reasons for death before the time. According to the report of The Daily Star, he said that the death of so many people may be a matter of security at the workplace. He said, “Employees outside live in substandard residences. They work overtime and do not get enough food.”
Heart attack was mentioned in death certificates
Jasia Khatoon said, “Usually, the countries that hand over the dead bodies mandation heart attack as the cause of death in death certificates, but there should be further medical examination to find out the exact cause of death.” He suggested that the Ministry of Pravasi Welfare and Foreign Employment and the Ministry of External Affairs of Bangladesh should work together to increase the monitoring of the migrant workers to prevent premature death.
In Wewb data, it has not been told how many bodies came from which country last year. According to the annual report of Wewb, between July 2016 and June 2022, 17,871 bodies came to Bangladesh, 67.4 per cent of which six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries- Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain came from Bahrain . Of these, 5,666 bodies came from Saudi Arabia, 1913 from UAE and 1893 from Oman.
