Air Pollution in Bangladesh: The air in Bangladesh, which is getting worse year after year, is now becoming destructive. Here, it is estimated that more than one lakh deaths and losses of more than a thousand crores are caused every year due to air pollution. These figures have come out in a research report.
The Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) has conducted a detailed study on the impact of air pollution in Bangladesh. On Saturday (January 18), CREA, in collaboration with the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS), presented important and warning figures of their research through a press conference at the National Press Club.
More than 1 lakh deaths every year
According to this study, 1,02,456 people die every year due to air pollution in Bangladesh. This figure includes 5,258 children. The report says that every year 6,70,000 patients are admitted to the emergency department due to air pollution related diseases. Also, 9 lakh newborns are born prematurely and the weight of about 7 lakh newborns is less than the norm. It has been said in the report that according to the population of Bangladesh, a total of 2630 lakh days of work is lost due to the recent situation of air pollution.

It has been told in the report that in 2023, Bangladesh was at the first position in the list of most polluted countries in the world. At that time, the weight of particulate matter (PM2.5) per cubic meter was 79.9 micrograms, which was more than double the country’s standard of 35 micrograms. And this is 16 times more than WHO’s standards of 5 micrograms. Particulate matter is a mixture of solid particles and liquid particles in the air. If its quantity is high then people start having trouble breathing.
According to the report, due to air pollution, people’s efficiency has also been adversely affected. In the figures of the year 2019, it was said that there would be a loss of Rs 1100 crore. In this report, many ways to reduce air pollution have also been explained in detail.
