Bangladesh India Relations: Amidst the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and the outrage against them, Dr. Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, has appealed for national unity. Terming these attacks on minority communities as “heinous”, he has urged all citizens to unite and oppose these acts.
Mohammad Yunus said, “This is the time for all communities and political parties in the country to come together. He will hold a meeting with students, leaders of political parties and religious communities regarding national unity. Dr. Yunus especially appealed to the youth. To ensure the safety of Hindu, Christian and Buddhist families.” He said, “There are many people standing to thwart your efforts, do not fail this time.”
Minorities are continuously being attacked
Attacks on minority communities have increased in Bangladesh since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. According to Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, there have been at least 205 attacks on minorities in 52 districts since August 5.
International outrage rising against the attacks
There has been outrage against these attacks at the international level as well. Demonstrations in support of Bangladeshi Hindus have taken place in Britain and the US, where protesters have demanded protection of minorities. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has also called on the interim government of Bangladesh to stop atrocities on Hindus and saints associated with ISKCON. Appealed for the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Das.
At the same time, this appeal of Dr. Yunus has come at a time when the security of minorities has become a serious issue in Bangladesh. He has urged all citizens to unite and maintain peace and harmony in the country.
