Bangladesh government recalled Deputy High Commissioner from Kolkata and Agartala

After the attack on the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala, Tripura, now Bangladeshi media has informed that the government has recalled its Deputy High Commissioners from Kolkata and Agartala for consultation. Earlier, the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh had summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Kumar Verma to Dhaka on Tuesday. 

Recently, the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, was attacked by some anarchist elements. Seven people were arrested in this attack. Due to infiltration in the High Commission, action was also taken against 4 police officers. After this, the Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh was summoned and protest was expressed regarding the incident. After this, Bangladesh had also announced to close its consular service in Agartala, after which Bangladesh has now recalled its diplomat from Tripura. 

What did the Ministry of External Affairs say about the attack?

Regarding the attack on the premises of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Monday that it expressed regret over the attack. The ministry had said that the incident occurred when thousands of people participated in a huge rally in Agartala, the capital of Tripura. The purpose of the rally was to protest against the arrest of ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. Along with this, a demand was made to stop the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

‘Steps are being taken to enhance security arrangements’

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on this incident saying, "Diplomatic and consular assets should not be targeted under any circumstances." The ministry further said that the government is taking steps to enhance the security arrangements of the Bangladesh High Commission and its Deputy/Assistant High Commissions.
