Bangladesh-India Tension: The condition of the country has become miserable under the leadership of the interim government of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is asking for help from some country or the other every day. Sometimes he demands potatoes from India and sometimes he demands diesel. Recently, Yunus government had demanded 22000 thousand tonnes of rice from Myanmar. Earlier India had also given Basmati rice to Bangladesh.
Apart from this, amid tension over diplomatic and border disputes between India and Bangladesh, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has decided to import 130,000 metric tons of diesel from India’s Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). According to Ahsan Tasneem’s report, the decision in this regard was approved in the meeting of the Board of Directors of BPC on Sunday (January 12, 2025). Bangladesh is importing from India at a time when it has been continuously making many allegations against India.

BPC sources said that this diesel will be imported between January and December this year and its cost will be 1,137 crore Bangladeshi Taka. This year BPC’s demand for refined fuel oil is 7.4 million metric tons. Of this, 4.6 million tonnes is diesel, 80% of which is directly imported. The rest is available from local refineries. BPC regularly imports refined fuel oil from NRL. This oil has been coming by train since January 2016. Earlier, the interim government of Bangladesh had decided to import 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati rice from India to meet the domestic demand.
Tension in India-Bangladesh
Relations between India and Bangladesh have been strained since the coup in Bangladesh on 5 August 2024. After the coup, there were attacks on Hindus which India strongly condemned. Apart from this, the Yunus government is constantly trying to put pressure on India to send the ousted Prime Minister back to Bangladesh.
