Bangladesh violence: The political and social situation in Bangladesh is deteriorating rapidly. After the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina, there is an atmosphere of unrest in the country. Meanwhile, Bangladesh has started the process of removing photographs of former President and country’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from its currency notes.
The Central Bank of Bangladesh informed that printing of new notes of 20, 100, 500, and 1,000 Taka has started. A glimpse of the student movement in July 2023 will be shown in these notes. This was the same movement that forced Sheikh Hasina to leave the country. The new notes being prepared in the country will include religious structures, Bengali traditions, and graffiti made during the movement.
On this, Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Hushanara Shikha said that the new notes will come in the market in the next six months. Let us tell you that the Finance Ministry of Bangladesh had presented a detailed design proposal for the new notes in September.
Mujibur Rahman’s statues also attacked
During the July student movement, protesters targeted statues and images of Mujibur Rahman. His statues were vandalized, and other public places containing his image were also damaged.
Tension between Sheikh Hasina and Yunus
Sheikh Hasina has accused the head of the interim government, Muhammad Yunus, of failing to provide security to minorities, especially Hindus. He said that Yunus is responsible for spreading anarchy in Bangladesh and endangering the stability of the country. Apart from this, Hasina said that the current ruling government in Dhaka has failed to protect the minorities. Making a veiled reference to the arrest of Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das, he said, “Hindu, Buddhist, Christian – no one has been spared.”
