Bangladesh Violence: In Bangladesh, ISKCON religious leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari has been arrested in a treason case. After this arrest on 25 November, protests started in the country. There was violence in these demonstrations, in which a lawyer died. After this, the police have registered cases against 70 minority lawyers and two journalists in various cases.
Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council described the allegations as false and fabricated. The Council says that this case has been made with the aim of obstructing the ongoing action against Chinmay Das and to suppress related news. The council has demanded the government and law enforcement agencies to withdraw the false cases and immediately release the lawyers and journalists.
Allegations of arrest of priests
ISKCON Kolkata has alleged that Bangladesh Police has also arrested two priests, Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das Brahmachari, who were returning after meeting Chinmoy Krishna Das. ISKCON Vice President Radha Raman claimed that Chinmoy Das’s secretary Krishna Das has also been detained. Apart from this, incidents of attacks and vandalism on ISKCON centers in Bangladesh by rioters have also come to light.
Violence and death of lawyer
During the violence on 27 November, a lawyer died in a clash between police and protesters. After this, the police registered cases against many people related to the demonstration. These accused also include 70 lawyers belonging to the minority community and two journalists.
India expressed concern
- India has lodged a protest against the attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
- The Indian Ministry of External Affairs raised this issue with the Bangladeshi government and expressed its concern over the violence and extremist incidents.
- India has demanded action from the Bangladesh government to protect the rights of minorities.
