Islamabad:
The crossing of the Torkham border between Pakistan and Afghanistan was closed for the second consecutive day over the border post.
Tensions between the two countries have increased due to the Afghan Taliban’s construction of a new post on the border.
There was no formal reaction from Pakistan about the closure of the Kham Border, but an official confirmed the progress.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the official said that under the agreement between the two countries, the parties’ willingness to construct any new structure along the border is essential.
The Afghan party has begun construction of a new structure without taking Pakistan into confidence. The Taliban government was asked to stop the work, but after their refusal, Pakistan had to close the border.
Border crossings use an average of 600 to 700 trucks and five to six thousand pedestrians daily. The Torkham border was also closed for various reasons on several occasions.
Asked about the time of the border reopening, an official said that there were contacts between the two sides at the local level, but the problem is yet to be resolved. Another official said that “the current situation is very dangerous”. –
Meanwhile, despite the rise in tensions, Pakistani authorities yesterday allowed the coffin of six Afghan citizens to move to Afghanistan under passionate goodwill. The issue of “unpaid” construction on the border has been a long -standing dispute between the two countries.
Since 2016, Pakistani and Afghan border forces have been repeatedly clashing over similar conflicts.
The latest tension between the two countries is also that the Afghan government is providing shelter to anti -Pakistan terrorists and is not preventing the use of anti -Pakistan activities.
This is also confirmed by a recently issued UN report, which states that the Tehreek -e -Taliban Pakistan is not only using the Afghan soil for its activities but also has the backing of the Taliban government in Kabul.
Pakistan has made it clear to the Afghan government that unless these terrorist shelters are eliminated, relations between the two countries cannot improve.
