Indonesia has decided to release 44,000 prisoners for various crimes.
According to foreign media, Indonesian President Prabowo Sabianto has decided to pardon thousands of prisoners. According to the Minister of Law, about 44,000 prisoners will be released across the country. These prisoners will be released on humanitarian grounds. The decision is aimed at reducing pressure on Indonesia’s overcrowded prisons.
Indonesia’s law minister added that the released prisoners would include people ranging from minor crimes to those critical of government policies. Released prisoners make up 30 percent of the prison population.
