Charges dropped against Shundale Barnett in Young Dolph murder case

Shundale Barnett, the cousin of convicted murderer Justin Johnson, was arrested on Monday by Shelby County deputies in connection with the 2021 murder of Memphis rapper Young Dolph.

Barnett was initially charged with accessory after the fact, first-degree murder, and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000, following a warrant issued after Dolph’s killing.

However, by Tuesday afternoon, those charges were removed from court records. According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, the charges were not pursued, and Barnett’s warrant should have been recalled before his arrest.

A spokesperson for the office explained that while Barnett was initially apprehended by the U.S. Marshals in January 2022, the accessory charge was retracted, and the warrant was never updated. The District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the situation.

Barnett had been arrested alongside Johnson in Indiana in 2022 but was released shortly after.
