
India Question To China: India has expressed concern over the mega hydropower dam being built by China on the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) river in Tibet. India has said that this project of China will have an impact on the downstream countries. At the same time, clarification has now come from China on this matter.
Beijing said on Saturday (January 4) that the project had been studied in detail for decades. China has said that in this project it has also been ensured that along with the protection of the environment, it will not have any negative impact on the downstream countries. Both India and Bangladesh have raised questions on this project.
American NSA will meet the Foreign Minister
According to reports from Washington on Saturday, American National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan may discuss the issue of this dam during his visit to India on January 5-6. Jake Sullivan will meet India’s NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his visit to India and address an event.
It is expected that he will talk about the important achievements of bilateral cooperation between India and America during Joe Biden’s tenure. The White House made the official announcement of Jake Sullivan’s visit to India on Friday night.
‘China’s upstream dams could harm the environment’
A senior US official said that we have seen in the Indo-Pacific that China has built upstream dams at many places, which can actually harm the environment. Rather, it can have climate impacts on downstream countries. In India, the Chinese Embassy on Saturday said China has always been “responsible for the development of trans-border rivers”.
