‘There is no winner in trade war and tariff war’
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said, “We have always believed that there is no winner in a trade war or a tariff war.” China is America’s second largest trading partner. Trump said the decision to impose tariffs on China would be based on whether it is sending fentanyl to Mexico and Canada. Fentanyl is a type of narcotic which is 50 times more powerful and addictive than heroin.
Preparation to implement tariff from February 1
Trump took this decision at a joint press conference at the White House with Oracle Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Larry Ellison, SoftBank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Masayoshi Son and Open AI CEO Sam Altman. In response to a question, Trump said that his government is considering implementing the tariff from February 1, 2025.
Trump talked to Xi Jinping
The US President said that we have been talking about imposing 25 percent tariff on Mexico and China. Trump said that when he spoke to Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, there was a lot of talk about tariffs. Did not. When asked whether he had asked Xi Jinping to intervene to stop the war in Ukraine, Trump said that China has not done much in this regard.
