More than one actor came to our Pakistani film industry and showed his artistic skills and got appreciation from the moviegoers. One of the most important artists among these artists was actor Waheed Murad. Waheed Murad was undoubtedly a stylish actor. Romantic, chocolaty hero, lady killer. All these addresses were given to him by the fans of Waheed Murad. Waheed Murad’s father Nisar Murad belonged to the city of Iqbal Sialkot. However, Nisar Murad was staying in Karachi for business, while Waheed Murad’s mother was related to medicine before marriage.
Waheed Murad was born on October 2, 1938 in Karachi. Waheed Murad was the only child of his parents. Nisar Murad himself was also highly educated and he gave higher education to his son Waheed Murad as well. Nisar Murad was very fond of show business. He also had a personal company called Film Arts under the banner of which he made films. His first film was “Insan Badalta Hai” whose hero was Ishrat Abbas known as Darpan. “Man changes” was declared a successful film. However, the second film of this institution was “Jab Se Dekha Hai Neke”. This film also had 22 heroes, it was also a successful film. This refers to around 1960 when renowned director SM Yusuf was planning to make his film ‘Olad’.
So while looking for a young man who could play the role of Habib and Neer Sultana’s son in his film, no young man was meeting his criteria. However, when SM Yusuf saw Waheed Murad, it was as if he succeeded in his search. SM Yusuf expressed his wish to Nisar Murad that he wants to cast Waheed Murad in his film, Nisar Murad replied that “Yusuf sir! There are two things, first, Waheed Murad is studying and after a while his exams are going to be held. Second, Waheed Murad has no interest in acting.” After listening to Nisar Murad, SM Yusuf said, “Nisar Murad Sahib! You should not worry about all the matters of Waheed Murad. Just know that from today I will fulfill all the responsibilities related to Waheed Murad’s education.
During the day, Waheed Murad would fulfill his educational responsibilities, at night, Waheed Murad would take part in the shooting of my film. While the shooting of the film took place in Lahore and the educational stages were decided in Karachi. In this regard, Waheed Murad used to go from Karachi to Lahore by evening flight every day and return from Lahore to Karachi by morning flight, as if Waheed Murad was not oblivious to his education. This is how the film “Olaad” was completed and in 1962 this film became the jewel of the theaters and proved to be the most successful film. Olad turned out to be a breakthrough film and is still loved today. Thus, after the success of the film “Olad”, the doors of the film industry opened for Waheed Murad. So, in 1963, Waheed Murad’s second film was released, which was called “Daman”. The film also featured Santosh Kumar and Sabiha Khanum.
Rani Begum played the heroine opposite Waheed Murad in this film. In 1964, two films of Waheed Murad were released. “Mamata” was Waheed Murad’s heroine Naghama Begum in this film while the other film was “Hira Aor Pathar” with Zeba Begum. It was a Golden Jubilee hit. After the success of this film, Waheed Murad was recognized as a successful hero. Five films of Waheed Murad were released in 1965, namely Bahu Begum, Doctor, Saz Wa Awaaz, Eid Mubarak and Kinees. The names of the films released in 1966 are “Armaan” which was the first platinum jubilee film of Pakistan while Honahar, Josh, Jaag Atha Insan and Bhaiya. The names of the films released in 1976 are “Mankind” proved to be the most successful film.
“Deor Bhabhi” successful, Ehsan, Duraha, then morning and parents. Movies released in 1968 include Rishta Hai Pyaar Ka, Jaan Arzoo, Samudra Dil Meera, Dhadkan Teri, Jahan Tum There Hum. The number of films released in 1969 were 6, Hush, Tumhi Ho Mehboob Mere, Ladla, Andalib, Ek Nagina. Waheed Murad’s quality was that he had no second in making song images, including in India. 42nd anniversary of Waheed Murad is being celebrated on November 23, 2025.
