Death toll rises to 55 in Hong Kong fire

Hong Kong: The death toll from a horrific fire at a high-rise residential complex in the northern part of the city has reached 55.

According to authorities, the fire that broke out last night engulfed several blocks of the building in a matter of minutes, resulting in a large number of casualties.

According to the news agency, out of 55 people, 51 people died on the spot, while 4 people died during treatment in the hospital.

The Hong Kong Fire Service says that the fire has been extinguished in 4 out of 8 blocks of the complex, while fire control operations are ongoing in the remaining blocks. One block has been spared from the fire.

Rescue teams continued operations throughout the night to evacuate people trapped in the building, while an investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the accident.
