Doja Cat defends ‘Vie’ album cover amid mixed reaction from fans: It’s the perfect cover

Doja Cat has defended the cover art for her upcoming fifth studio album, Vie, which is scheduled for release on September 26 through Kemosabe and RCA Records.

The image shows the Grammy-winning artist suspended from a parachute caught in a tree while dressed in a wedding gown.

Explaining the symbolism behind the artwork, she wrote: “Falling in love is putting trust in the hands of yourself and others. The yellow parachute represents curiosity, happiness, and adventure. Flying you towards new experiences and scenes, taking a leap of faith, and holding no bounds”.

The design has received a mixed response online. Some fans praised the concept and personal meaning, while others questioned the direction. One user on X wrote, “This cover makes no sense with the aesthetic she’s been going with for the era.” Another added, “Girl what is this… she can’t be serious.”

Doja Cat responded directly to the criticism on social media, writing, “You can’t make me feel bad for a cover that has visceral meaning” and that the cover was “perfect”.

Speaking further on Instagram Live, she reiterated that she stands by the artwork. “What I’m doing with my album isn’t a period piece. The truth about the album cover is it’s 100% perfect for what I’m trying to depict. Also, it’s just a cover. It doesn’t make the music sound different.”
