Donald Trump Time Magazine: Time magazine has named President-elect Donald Trump as ‘Person of the Year’ for 2024, this is the second time he has received this honor. Earlier, Trump had received this honor in 2016. This announcement was made on Thursday (12 December 2024). Last year, the ‘Person of the Year’ for 2023 was given to pop icon Taylor Swift.
TIME always aims to select individuals or groups who “have most shaped the world, for better or for worse.” However, many President-elects have become eligible for this honour. But despite this, no one expected that Trump would get this honor.
Achievement despite Trump’s criticisms
Donald Trump once called Time’s Person of the Year his “Holy Grail”. Over the years, he has appeared on magazine covers several times. In 2015, when Time chose German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Trump publicly expressed his displeasure. He tweeted then and even mentioned it at a rally. When he was selected in 2016, he said on NBC’s “Today Show,” “It was a huge honor.”
Reason for selection explained
Time’s editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs has made it clear why Trump was placed at the top. He said, “For reshaping the American presidency and changing the role of America, Donald Trump is TIME’s 2024 ‘Person of the Year’.”
Despite the protests, Trump got respect
Despite the bankruptcy of six companies and facing several criminal cases, Trump achieved this goal by defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump will now be the first criminal to take the oath of office, the first president to face impeachment twice and, at the age of 78, he will be the oldest person to become president. Kamala Harris was among the five finalists for this honor of Time.
