ECP seeks in-person rationalization from Azam Swati over allegations

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)  has served a show-cause discover and requested Federal Minister for Railways and PTI chief Azam Swati to seem in-person and provides a proof over his allegations in opposition to the establishment.

A bench, comprising ECP members Nisar Ahmed Durrani and Shah Mohammad Jatoi heard the allegations in opposition to Swati on Thursday in Islamabad.

Swati’s lawyer was changed by a junior lawyer within the fee, who shared that lawyer Chaudhry Faisal was busy within the Supreme Court.

Jatoi requested the junior lawyer why he had not taken a briefing over the case from the senior lawyer, whereas Durrani identified that solely giving energy of legal professional will not remedy the issue.

Swati had lashed out on the ECP, accusing it of taking cash from corporations that make digital voting machines throughout a gathering of the Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on September 10 and one other held the night time prior at President House.

He had alleged that the ECP is destroying the nation’s democracy and that it’s concerned in rigging.

Members of the ECP had walked out of the assembly of the Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs  following Swati’s allegations.

Three weeks in the past, the ECP had given federal ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Swati extra time to submit their replies relating to allegations they levelled in opposition to the fee and the chief election commissioner (CEC).

Sources aware of the matter mentioned that the ECP had sought replies from the federal ministers in three weeks.

They mentioned that motion in opposition to the ministers will probably be taken below the Election Act in case of non-compliance with the orders and their behaviour could also be thought of contempt if proof backing the allegations shouldn’t be supplied.

The ECP had served notices to Chaudhry and Swati on September 16, searching for explanations inside every week from each the ministers for accusations in opposition to CEC Sikander Sultan Raja and the fee.

However, each the ministers, on September 23, had requested an extension from the ECP to submit their replies.

Chaudhry had mentioned that the ECP has “become the headquarters for Opposition parties” and the chief election commissioner is “acting as their mouthpiece”, throughout a press convention on the identical day Swati made his allegations.
