‘Enmity’ with India and embrace of Pakistan, Yunus-Shahbaz met in Cairo, is Bangladeshi PM conspiring with Pakistan?

Bangladesh-Pakistan Relations: While on one hand Bangladesh is taking every step against India, on the other hand its relations with neighboring country Pakistan are getting better. The main reason for this seems to be the ‘fundamentalist’ agenda of Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh, which always attracts Pakistan. Now in this series, the PMs of both the countries met in Egypt’s capital Cairo. Meanwhile, seeing the warmth between Shahbaz Sharif and Mohammad Yunus, many experts have started saying that Yunus may soon visit Pakistan.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Professor Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, met for the second time in 48 days during the D-8 summit in Egypt’s capital Cairo. Where Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif met Prof. Yunus was invited to visit Pakistan, which he accepted positively. Senior officials like Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Yunus’ special envoy Lutfi Siddiqui were present in the meeting.

During the D8 meeting held in Cairo, Prof. Mohammad Yunus stressed the need to resolve the issues of 1971. He said that solving these problems will give a new dimension to Dhaka-Islamabad relations.

Yunus urged Sharif, ‘It is necessary to resolve these issues permanently for future generations.’ In response, Sharif cited the 1974 tripartite agreement and said that if there are any pending issues, they are ready to be considered.
