The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) on Thursday unanimously approved FIFA’s proposed constitutional amendments during an extraordinary meeting in Lahore, as part of efforts to return to international football.
FIFA had suspended Pakistan on February 6, marking its third international suspension in less than eight years after the federation rejected proposed electoral reforms.
The extraordinary congress, which included officials from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), endorsed the amendments in the best interest of Pakistan football.
This move paves the way for the national team’s participation in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, pending the expected lifting of FIFA’s suspension.
FIFA had previously warned that the suspension would only be lifted if the PFF Congress approved the version of the constitution presented by FIFA and the AFC.
The PFF expressed hope that the suspension would be lifted in time for Pakistan’s match against Syria on March 25, marking their first qualifier for the 2027 Asian Cup.
