During the meeting of the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC), foreign scholarships revealed that Rs 1.5 billion was not withdrawn from the fugitive scholars, while Chairman Junaid Akbar directed the Higher Education Commission to conduct FIRs against the runaway scholars.
The meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly was chaired by Chairman Junaid Akbar. The meeting reviewed the audit objections of the Higher Education Commission.
The meeting revealed 89 out of 92 cancellations in the US Phil Bright Scholarship, Shahida Akhtar said, “Can’t such people pass the passport cancellation?” Committee Chairman Junaid Akhtar said that such people’s identity cards should be blocked.
Executive Director HEC said that the number of runaway scholars is 96, some cases are also in the courts, with coffee scholars withdrawing nearly 80 crore fines.
Shazia Murree said that there should be a permanent solution to the whole matter that national money does not cost people who do not return to Pakistan, HEC should think of this issue.
Junaid Akbar said that HEC should conduct FIRs against such people, Senator Afnanullah said it was very shameful that using the country’s money does not come back.
Junaid Akbar said that if the courts are being recovered, it should also be estimated, who will meet the HEC costs.
