Former Ambassador Sadiq Khan appointed Special Representative for Afghanistan once again

Islamabad:

The federal government has once again appointed former ambassador Muhammad Sadiq Khan as the special representative for Afghanistan.

Former Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq Khan had previously held the post for three years and retired from his post in May 2023.

Earlier on September 10 this year, the then diplomat Asif Durrani was removed from the post of Special Representative of Afghanistan and after that no new Special Representative was appointed.

On the other hand, the relations between the Taliban government of Afghanistan and Pakistan are also cold and relations between the two countries deteriorated during the tenure of former Special Representative Asif Durrani and he was apparently unable to play an important role.

The Express Tribune report said that Foreign Office officials were of the view that matters could be handled with the Afghan government without appointing any ex-officer as a representative.

Other countries with interests in Afghanistan and other countries in the region have also appointed their special representatives for Afghanistan.
