Israel-Hamas Ceasefire: Just before the 6-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas starting from today, Hamas has fulfilled Israel’s condition. Hamas has handed over to Israel the names of three Israeli female hostages to be released today.
On Saturday itself, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu had made it clear that if Hamas does not hand over the list of hostages to be released, then Israel will not move forward on the ceasefire agreement.
On the other hand, even before the ceasefire, the Israeli Defense Force is targeting terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Air Force is bombing selected targets in the northern and central Gaza Strip.
Such is the ceasefire deal
The first phase of ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is starting from today. This phase will be for a total of 42 days. During this period, Hamas fighters will release 33 out of 98 Israeli hostages. 737 prisoners will be released from Israel. Three points have been made for exchange of hostages and prisoners. These points will be in Kerim Shalom, Erez and Reem. Doctors and mental health experts will be present here who will examine the people who are to be released.
According to the agreement, in these 42 days the Israeli army will gradually start withdrawing from the densely populated areas of Gaza. Only after the army withdraws from these areas, the residents here will be able to return to their homes again. Israeli troops will not completely withdraw from Gaza until all Israeli hostages are freed. Negotiations for the second phase will proceed from the 16th day of the first phase of ceasefire.
More than 47 thousand deaths
There has been a war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza for the last 15 months. Israel had declared war on October 7, 2023, after Hamas lost more than 1200 lives in a surprise attack. It is estimated that 46,000 people living in Gaza were killed in the Israeli attack.
