Girl fired from her job for wearing sports shoes becomes a millionaire

London:

A British girl who was fired from her job for wearing sports shoes won over a million in damages against the company.

Elizabeth Benassi, 20, worked at a recruitment agency serving the Department for Work and Pensions in the UK where she was fired for wearing sports shoes.

Elizabeth Benassi took the unfair treatment to an employment tribunal where she said she was “treated like a child” by her manager and unfairly dismissed even though fellow employees wore similar shoes.

Elizabeth Benassi started working at Maximus UK Services in 2022 aged 18 but didn’t know the company had a dress code.

The tribunal was told that most of the victim’s colleagues were in their 20s and Benassi was the youngest in the company, which meant she was being “micro-managed”.

The Employment Tribunal ruled in favor of the young employee and ordered the company to pay 29,187 pounds (more than one crore Pakistani rupees) as damages.

The employment judge held that there was a clear injustice to Elizabeth which indicated the company’s willingness to find fault with its employee.

An employment tribunal rejected her second claim of age discrimination, while Maximus UK Services has denied any wrongdoing.
