Gaza Ceasefire: As part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, Hamas released three Israeli hostages under the sixth exchange of hostages and prisoners on Saturday. In exchange for these three, the Jewish nation will liberate 369 Palestinian prisoners. The three hostages released by the Filistini Group were caught by Hamas fighters during the 7 October 2023 attack from Kibutz Neer Oz, close to Gaza.
Released hostages include Alexander Towanov (29-year-old Russian-Israeli), Jare Horn (46-year-old Argentine-Israeli), Sagui Dekel-Chain (36-year-old American-Israeli).
Israel has released Israel
Since the ceasefire started on January 19, Hamas has released 16 Israeli and five Thai hostages. At the same time, Israel has released 766 Palestinian prisoners. Hamas handed over the three to the Red Cross who took them to Israel. Earlier, Hamas said on Thursday that he is committed to implementing the agreement, including the exchange of prisoners according to the specified time limit.
Hamas warned earlier
Hamas earlier announced that he would not release the hostages on Saturday, after which questions started to arise on the delicate ceasefire. The Palestinian Group accused Israel of preventing help to Gaza Strip, which Israel rejected.
After Hamas’s announcement, US President Donald Trump then warned that if Hamas failed to release all those who were held hostage in Gaza till Saturday, there would be havoc. Israeli PM Netanyahu said that if Hamas does not free the hostages by Saturday afternoon, then the ‘intense fight’ in Israel Gaza will start again.
Hamas attacked on 7 October
Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023 and caught 251 hostages and killed about 1,200 people after which the war started. According to the Health Ministry run by Hamas of Gaza, at least 48,239 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli attack. The United Nations says that about two-thirds of Gaza buildings have been damaged or destroyed by Israeli attacks.
