Car rental firm Hertz has filed for chapter safety within the US after the pandemic noticed its enterprise plummet.

The agency, which earns a lot of its revenue from automobile leases at airports, stated it had been affected by the sharp downturn in international travel.

It will proceed to function whereas restructuring its money owed.

Hertz’s worldwide operations in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in addition to its franchised places within the US are usually not affected.

The firm – which started working a century in the past in Chicago with a dozen Model T Ford vehicles – had already furloughed or laid off 20,000 staff, or round half of its international workforce, in response to the pandemic.

“The impact of Covid-19 on travel demand was sudden and dramatic, causing an abrupt decline in the company’s revenue and future bookings,” Hertz stated on Friday.

While it had taken “immediate actions to prioritize the health and safety of employees and customers, eliminate all non-essential spending and preserve liquidity”, the uncertainty over if and when the market would get well led to its determination, it stated.
