Thousands of Palestinians in southern Gaza raided aid centers established by the US and Israeli -backed welfare organization Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).
The incident took place in Rafah on Tuesday, where full Israeli military control is. Palestinian citizens, women and children were forced to hunger and ran towards these relief centers, though these centers were reportedly concerned with biometric check reports.
According to the GHF, 8,000 food boxes were distributed in just one day, which contained about 4 lakh 62 thousand foods.
In the videos that surfaced on social media, people were seen entering the fence and entering the open field where aid was kept. Later, the people broke the fences and the people raided the place.
Ismail al -Tawbat, director of the Hamas -based Gaza Media Office, alleged that the main reason for the disorder in the distribution of aid was the incompetence of an Israeli -supervised company.
The UN and other international organizations have refused to work with the GHF, as they consider it linked to political and military interests.
UN spokesperson has termed the incident a “heartbreaking”, while Red Cross spokesman Christian Cardon said: “Human aid cannot be made part of politics nor of military interests.”
According to the Israeli military, new relief centers have been opened at two places in Rafah, and “thousands of families have been provided food.”
Israel says the new relief system is being used to identify those who may be connected to Hamas, and that facial recognition is for the same purpose.
Abu Ahmed, a local citizen, said: “My children are hungry, I am hungry, but I am afraid … it is said that the company belongs to Israel and information can be used.”
