What does India say?
There is a 4,096.7 km long border between India and Bangladesh, which passes through Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Mizoram. India says that there is an infiltration from Bangladesh in these areas, which is being launched to stop. Surjit Singh Guleria said that the fence has been done for the villages along the international border within 150 yards of ground. It is estimated that 60 % of crimes crossing the border occur where there is no fence or where there are villages on the international border. He said that Bangladesh is not ready to accept this, due to which this issue has become an issue.
On the objections of Bangladesh, former army officer SK Sood said that Bangladesh was informed about the areas where fencing work is not being done due to population or other reasons and told that India wanted to fad there. How many areas have fences installed?
India started the work of fencing in the year 1986 and its work is going on in different areas. According to the Indian Home Ministry, India has put a fence of 3,141 km on the Bangladeshi border bordering North Eastern states including Bengal.
