India Maldives Relation: When Mohammed Muizzu’s government came to power in Maldives, its relations with India had deteriorated. Recently, India’s relations with Bangladesh also deteriorated after Yunus’ government came to power. Somewhere China and Pakistan played a big role in this. However now between Maldives and India There is no sourness in relationships like before. Both countries want to walk on the path of progress with mutual cooperation. In this context, an important bilateral talks took place between India and Maldives in New Delhi on Wednesday. In this talk, mutual partnership between India and Maldives regarding maritime security was discussed. At the request of the Government of Maldives, India has handed over defense equipment and stores to Maldives. The Defense Ministers of both the countries also discussed various important topics related to the defense sector.
During the talks, both sides reiterated their strong commitment to work together in realizing the joint vision for India-Maldives Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Maldives Defense Minister Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon on Wednesday. In this talk, he comprehensively reviewed various aspects of bilateral defense and security cooperation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh talked about supporting Maldives in capacity building for defense preparedness as per its national priorities. They also reaffirmed support to Maldives in line with New Delhi’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) approach. This includes the provision of defense platforms and assets to enhance the capabilities of Maldives.
Maldives Defense Minister Maumoon praised India’s historical role as a ‘first responder’ for Maldives. He thanked New Delhi for India’s assistance in training defense and security personnel and enhancing modern infrastructure capabilities.
Defence Ministry says that Maldives Defense Minister Maumoon is on his first official visit to India. The visit is part of continued high-level contacts between the two sides. It has provided an opportunity to further deepen bilateral defense and security relations for the mutual benefit of both countries and the Indian Ocean region.
