Indian origin man Jailed making racist remarks in Singapore

Indian Origion Man Jailed: 27-year-old Rishi David Ramesh Nandwani of Indian origin has been sentenced to four weeks in jail for making racial remarks and throwing a tip box at a female cashier of a cafe in Singapore. Besides, a fine of four thousand SGD (Singapore Dollar) has also been imposed.

The court held Rishi David guilty of using abusive words and endangering the safety of the victim in the cafe. According to News Asia, the court also considered two other charges during this period.

When and why did this incident happen?

The incident took place on October 31, 2024 at Project Acai Café in Holland Village, Singapore. Where at around 12:20 there was a crowd of customers including children in the cafe. Rishi mistakenly thought he was in the queue to place an order. On this, the cashier of the cafe told Rishi David Ramesh Nandwani that he was at the wrong end of the line, and he was also asked to wait for his turn. Soon after, Rishi started making racist comments against Chinese people. He also expressed his disappointment towards the country and refused to go to the back of the line.

Disturbed by Rishi’s insult, the female cashier went away from there. However the sage continued shouting. Then picked up a tip box and threw it at the cashier, hitting him on his lower back. After this, the victim called the police to inform about the incident, where Rishi was arrested after about an hour. Janet Wang, a Singapore district judge, ruled on the incident, saying that Rishi’s crimes caused public unrest.
