Inter-state river disputes: Tamil Nadu, Kerala maintain third spherical of talks

Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Friday held their third spherical of talks between respective committees set as much as talk about numerous inter-state river water disputes.

An official launch from the Tamil Nadu authorities mentioned that separate panels have been established earlier to debate the Parambikulam-Aliyar and Pandiyaru-Punnambuzha points and two conferences had held earlier in 2019 and 2020.

“The third round of talks of these committees were held virtually today,” it mentioned.

Tamil Nadu raised issues, together with the Anaimalaiyaru scheme, Neeraru-Nallaru linking, getting the Central nod for eradicating 23 bushes on Baby dam and Mullaiperiyar reservoir, releasing of water from Neyyar dam to profit irrigation lands in Kanniyakumari’s Vilavankode taluk, amongst others, the discharge mentioned.

The topics flagged by Kerala embrace renewing the Parambikulam-Aliyar challenge settlement and one on producing electrical energy from Mullaiperiyar dam, it mentioned.

While Tamil Nadu was represented by a staff of officers headed by PWD Additional Chief Secretary Sandeep Saxena, Kerala Water Resources Additional Chief Secretary T Okay Jose led the Kerala facet.
