According to the report of Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper, the normalization of relations between the two countries could be linked to the ceasefire agreement, which could also end the Israeli war in Gaza. The report quoted sources as saying that Israel has agreed to a vague commitment towards an independent Palestinian state on the demand of Saudi Arabia.
However, Barak Ravid, a journalist associated with Axios, has refuted this report quoting a Saudi Arabian official on the social media platform X. According to the Post, the official said, ‘To suggest that the Saudi leadership has changed its commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestine is completely baseless. Saudi Arabia has said that it will strive to end the ongoing war with Israel in Gaza and ensure the right of Palestinian citizens to an independent state.
What does the Saudi Crown Prince say??
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has publicly termed Israel’s attacks and actions in Gaza as genocide. The Crown Prince said that there cannot be normal relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel without recognizing the Palestinian state that makes East Jerusalem its capital.
According to Haaretz, sources close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Saudi Crown Prince is personally not interested in giving formal recognition to the Palestinian country of Gaza. This issue is important only to garner domestic political and religious support.
