Israel-Hamas Ceasefire: Israel has stopped thousands of displaced Palestinians from returning to their homes in the north of the Gaza Strip, accusing Hamas of violating the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
Palestinians spent the night on the streets in the hope that in the morning the Israeli army would allow them to enter Gaza. It is being told that Israeli tanks have blocked the coastal road from where people had to go north.
Palestinian youth injured
Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian youth and wounded another while displaced civilians were trying to return to their homes in central Gaza, Palestinian medical sources said.
The dispute occurred when on Saturday, as part of the agreement, Hamas released four Israeli female soldiers, in return Israel released 200 Palestinian prisoners.
Israel made this announcement
After this exchange, Israel announced that it would not allow Gazans to enter the northern Gaza Strip until arrangements were made for the release of civilian Arbel Yehud. Yehud was to be included in Saturday’s release list. It is still unclear why his name was left out. Whereas Hamas claimed that Yehud is alive and he will be released next Saturday.
According to Israel, Hamas violated the agreement by releasing female hostage soldiers before all surviving civilian female captives. According to media reports, under the agreement Palestinians were to be allowed to return to northern Gaza. More than 1 million of them were displaced at the beginning of the war.
Israel asked for proof
Mediators from Qatar and Egypt are trying to get hundreds of thousands of Palestinians allowed to return to the north. Israel has asked Hamas through intermediaries for proof of the existence of Yehud, and it appears that Hamas has provided this proof to the Egyptians.
