Between November 27 and December 22, at least 45 people died due to Israel’s violations of the ceasefire agreement. A source in the Lebanese Army gave this information. According to the source, the Israeli army has also arrested 17 people from the border towns.
According to Lebanese Foreign Ministry estimates, between November 27 and December 22, Israel carried out more than 816 ground and air strikes against Lebanon. This includes shelling of border villages, bomb blasts in houses, destruction of residential areas and blocking of roads.
Meanwhile, Candice Ardell, deputy director of the media office of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), said on Sunday that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) informed their forces that the security of peacekeepers in the area around Taybeh is guaranteed. Cannot be given, and patrols should avoid this area.
Ardell insisted, "The safety of peacekeepers is the highest priority and we will not put them at unnecessary risk." He said, "We remind the IDF of its obligations under ‘Resolution 1701’ to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and the freedom of movement of peacekeepers in the UNIFIL area of operations in southern Lebanon."
The ceasefire, brokered by the US and France, came into effect on November 27, aimed at stopping the nearly 14-month-long war between Israel and Hezbollah.
The terms of the ceasefire agreement include Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory within 60 days, the deployment of Lebanese troops to the Lebanon-Israel border and to the south. Despite the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army has continued attacks in Lebanon, although their intensity has reduced considerably.
