Jaya Bachchan On Film Industry: Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha member and Digjagj actress Jaya Bachchan has often been talking about the film industry in the House. On Tuesday, he appealed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to bring some proposals to help save the film industry and keep it alive.

Accused of attempting to ‘end’ the film industry
Actually, the Union Budget 2025-26 was being discussed in the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, actress turn politician Jaya Bachchan accused the government of trying to ‘finish’ the film industry. Along with this, he said that the daily wage laborers have become difficult to survive and single-screen theaters are closing, people are not going to the cinema hall because everything has become very expensive.

The film industry is being completely ignored
He said, ‘You have completely ignored an industry. Earlier governments kept doing the same thing. But today you have taken it to the next level. You have completely ignored the film and entertainment world, because you use them only for your purpose. Bachchan said in the upper house, ‘Do you want to end this industry? You cannot do a bigger thing than this … This is the only industry that connects the whole world to India.

Jaya Bachchan appealed for relief
He appealed for some ‘relief’ for the country’s visual industry and alleged that cinema was being targeted. He said, ‘I am speaking on behalf of my film industry and I am requesting this House on behalf of the audio-visual industry to spare them. Please have some pity on them. You are trying to end this industry. Please do not do this .. Today you have started targeting cinema too.

Jaya Bachchan made this request to Nirata Sitharaman
He requested Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to consider the issue very seriously and said that this is a ‘very difficult industry’. Jaya Bachchan said, ‘I request the Finance Minister to consider it and please bring something to help keep this industry alive.’
