Joe Biden did not speak for a long time after the inaugural address of his successor and Republican President Donald Trump, in which he pledged to completely reverse many of the decisions taken by his predecessor’s administration. Before the transfer of executive powers in the final hours around noon, Biden greeted Trump, whom he ousted from power four years ago.
Donald Trump had refused to accept that he had lost the 2020 election and avoided giving such an honor during Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021. Amidst the biting cold, Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden received Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump and greeted them during the traditional swearing-in ceremony at the White House.
Joe Biden told Donald Trump, ‘You are welcome.’ After this, both of them boarded a limousine and then Donald Trump took oath as the 47th President of America. Donald Trump said of the Biden administration’s work, ‘Our recent election is a mandate to completely reverse a terrible betrayal.’ Joe Biden was sitting expressionless in the front row and was listening.
As soon as Donald Trump began his address, White House staff got to work. They started removing Joe Biden’s remaining luggage so they could take Donald Trump and his family inside. After the address, the new President walked over and met Biden and his wife, who were preparing to board a helicopter to Joint Base Andrews to attend a farewell ceremony with staff.
Joe Biden told staff, ‘Whatever we did… we couldn’t do anything without you.’ He said, ‘No President can choose the moment when history is made but he gets a chance to choose the team with which he makes history and we chose the best team in the world.’
Joe Biden urged employees to stay in touch, saying, ‘We are leaving office. We are not giving up the fight. He was also seen making fun of Donald Trump’s speech and laughingly said, ‘We heard his speech at the swearing-in today. We have a lot to do. After this Joe Biden made the ‘cross’ sign and then everyone laughed. Joe Biden and his wife then left in a blue and white plane for Santa Ynez, California, where they plan to relax with family.
