Bangladesh Ruckus: Amid reports of attacks on Hindus and other minorities in neighboring Bangladesh, a youth from Kolkata has claimed that he was beaten up by unknown people in Dhaka. 22 year old Sayan Ghosh, resident of Belgharia area of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, had gone to Bangladesh on 23 November 2024 and stayed at a friend’s house.
Ghosh told news agency PTI, “However, when my friend and I went out for a walk late in the evening of November 26, a group of four-five youths surrounded us. They asked me my identity. When I told that I was from India, Since I am a Hindu, they started kicking and punching me and even attacked my friend who was trying to save me.”
Ghosh’s mobile and wallet snatched, disappointed with police
He also said that those youths snatched his mobile phone and wallet at knife point. He said, “No passerby came forward to help us. There were no policemen nearby either.”
After the incident, Ghosh and his friends went to Shyampur police station, but the police refused to register any complaint and repeatedly asked them why they had come to Bangladesh.
Refused to treat Ghosh
Sayan Ghosh said, “When I showed them my passport and visa and spoke to my friend and his family, they were satisfied and asked me to get my wounds treated.” After this he told that two private hospitals refused to treat him and finally he had to go to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. There he received treatment after three hours, in which several stitches were put on his forehead and head and he also suffered injuries on his mouth.
