A woman from the villages of Thatta, far away from urban facilities, set an example to improve the economic condition of her family by setting up a doorstep kitchen garden, saving 38-year-old Zahida time with the help of agriculture kits provided by the government and the Sindh Rural Support Organization. Expensive vegetables were saved.
According to the details, the woman Zahida of Thatta became self-sufficient without education and resources. 38-year-old Zahida, a resident of Rawat Magsi, a small village of Thatta, has set up a kitchen garden at the doorstep of her house to prepare her own food.
Zahida, who supports 5 children, her husband works as a weed cutter, her husband is a laborer and Zahida had no other support, Zahida, who belongs to a poor family, has three daughters who do not go to school. She was afraid to go away.
Fed up with the conditions at home, Zahida broke her four-walled tradition and took up the task of becoming self-supporting as a woman. To equip with technology, provided 200 agriculture kits in Thatta district, which includes drippers, water, water tanks, through the kit Zahida saved water, food Time was also saved with the arrangement.
Speaking to Express, Zahida said that since the time of ancestors, they have been living in this village of Thatta, they have established a kitchen garden through these agriculture kits, due to which they have got rid of expensive vegetables. Water used to be filled by covering a distance of several kilometers, heavy buckets no longer have to be lifted, just open the wall for ten minutes and the water is automatically stored.
Earlier, water shortage was faced, canal water comes 10 to 12 days in a month, Zahida said that after the dangerous flood situation in 2022, valuable crops were destroyed, due to which inflation was faced, there was a shortage of vegetables and fruits. Because of which this step was taken.
Zahida lives in an eco-friendly house made of natural ingredients to protect her from the heat, which is worth Rs 100,000. The roof of the house is made using natural materials including plastic.
Sarso member Ghulam Mujtaba while talking to Express said that kitchen gardening kits have been provided to the working class, our aim was to make the women here aware of modern technology, through drip irrigation, seeds are produced with one drop of water. are, selected through a survey in the village, the names suggested by the Sarso members were given the kits. Where water cannot reach, seed germanization is done through drip irrigation.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sarso, Mohammad Duttal Kalhoro said that Zahida’s is not just a hobby but it has also become an important tool to deal with the food crisis, the work that these rural women are skilled in. Or if they have a hobby, we give them interest-free loans, they earn employment through their skills with a small investment so that they can earn a living through these activities in times of need.
With the support of Sindh Rural Support Organization (SARSO) and the Government of Sindh, 1.5 million households in Sindh are being empowered and earning employment. There are 15 women members who are determined to reduce poverty in Sindh and teach women to make decisions by empowering them. So that awareness is created in the coming generation.
