China Population Crisis: The Chinese government has urged colleges and universities to provide “love education” to help young people develop positive attitudes about marriage, love, family and reproduction. This step has been taken with the aim of stopping the declining birth rate of the country and solving the population crisis. In 2023, there was a decline in population for the second consecutive year, due to which the government faced the crisis of economic pressure and aging population.
Despite China being the second most populous country, the young generation of the country is not giving priority to marriage and love. According to a research, 57% of college students said that they do not want to get involved in relationships. They believe that they are unable to maintain a balance between their studies and relationships. This is affecting the birth rate of the country, to increase which the government is now making efforts through educational institutions.
Responsibility given to colleges and universities
According to the government, educational institutions should take the responsibility of imparting marriage and “love education”. Through these courses, the aim has been to make the youth aware about marriage and family and to create a healthy cultural environment. The government has also instructed local bodies to invest resources in this direction and encourage marriage at the right age.
Will it affect the youth?
However, experts believe that these steps of the government will not be as effective among the youth because the thoughts and priorities of modern Chinese youth have already changed a lot. But encouraging marriage and reproduction through “love education” is an attempt to secure China’s social and economic future. China has limited time between its rapidly increasing elderly population and declining youth population. This initiative is not only an effort to improve the birth rate but is also an important step towards maintaining the economic and social balance of the country.
