Manipur: Assam Rifles jawan killed in IED blast, cops suspect militant function

A jawan of the 16th Assam Rifles was killed whereas one other sustained accidents Wednesday in a strong blast triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by militants in Thoubal district’s Lilong in Manipur.

The police mentioned the incident occurred round 1:35 pm at Sangomsang space alongside the National Highway-102 (Imphal-Moreh Road). The Assam Rifles workforce was on routine patrolling responsibility when the IED exploded.

The police speculated that the IED may have been planted focusing on the 16th Assam Rifles workforce which often takes relaxation near the positioning of the blast after their responsibility.

The deceased personnel was recognized as L Wangshu, 30, of Arunachal Pradesh whereas the injured was recognized as Pingku Das, 25, of Tripura.

A police led by the Thoubal SP rushed to the spot to take inventory of the state of affairs, cordoned off and started a search operation in and across the space. However, there was no report of any arrest. A case has been registered by the police in reference to the incident.
