Thousands of bodies are feared to have been buried in the mass grave discovered in the Qatifah area, north of Damascus, the capital of Syria.
According to the foreign news agency Reuters, this mass grave is one of several mass graves discovered after the end of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
After visiting two sites of mass graves in the towns of Al-Qatifah and Najha, near Damascus, former US war crimes envoy Stephen Rapp told Reuters that there are definitely more than 100,000 people who have been tortured to death in these mass graves since 2013. Buried in graves.
According to foreign media, satellite images analyzed by Reuters show that large-scale excavation at the site began between 2012 and 2014 and will continue until 2022. The presence of a crane and dug trenches can also be seen at this place.
People in Qatifah declined to speak on camera for fear of retaliation, Reuters reported, saying they still weren’t sure the area was safe after Assad’s fall.
