Regarding which Morocco has made such an announcement, it is being criticized all over the world. In fact, Morocco has announced a plan to kill 3 million stray dogs to promote tourism in the country during the FIFA World Cup. But Morocco’s plan has now been criticized by animal welfare organizations and activists around the world.
Morocco is adopting inhumane and illegal methods
According to the Daily Mail report, Moroccan authorities are planning to adopt such inhumane and illegal methods to deal with the increasing population of stray dogs in the country. Under this plan, methods include giving the most dangerous poison Strychnine to dogs, shooting dogs in public places and beating them to death with shovels.
If the killings continue then the tournament should be suspended
The International Animal Welfare and Protection Coalition has warned the world about this scheme of Morocco that about 3 million or 30 lakh dogs can be killed under this scheme. Renowned primatologist and animal rights advocate Jane Goodall has intervened in this matter and written a letter to FIFA urging it to take immediate action to stop these killings.
In her letter to FIFA, Jane Goodall strongly condemned the cruel and inhumane methods used under this scheme and said that if the killing of dogs continued, the FIFA tournament to be held in Morocco should be suspended. Let us tell you that there are legal methods to prohibit killing of stray dogs in Morocco, but reports suggest that the authorities often take such action without any intervention from local law enforcement.
However, FIFA has not yet issued any official statement on this matter. But NDTV quoted sources as saying that the organization is closely monitoring the situation in Morocco.
