PARIS:
A no-confidence motion against the prime minister was passed in France.
French lawmakers yesterday moved to topple the three-month-old government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, the first time the lower house has overthrown a government in 60 years.
The motion was tabled by left-wing leader Marine Le Pen, with neither having a clear majority in the assembly.
A majority of 331 MPs in the 577-member house voted to remove the government, backed by the far-right.
After the vote, the speaker confirmed that Barnier would now have to present “his resignation” to Macron.
Macron was in Saudi Arabia on an official visit these days, he had to return on emergency grounds.
