
Relations between Bangladesh and India have soured due to attacks on Hindus and minorities. India is very worried and angry about these attacks. Meanwhile, the Mohammad Yunus government of Bangladesh has said that it has historical relations with India and it wants to take them forward. Besides, he is also desperate to work with India. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jasimuddin said this after meeting India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday (December 9, 2024).
Vikram Misri went to Bangladesh yesterday on a 12-hour visit, where he expressed India’s concerns to Bangladesh regarding attacks on Hindus and discussed bilateral issues. Mohammad Jasimuddin said that Bangladesh wants to take forward its relations with India. He also said that at this time there is a need to create trust between the people of both the countries.
According to Dhaka Tribune, Jasimuddin said, ‘India is our closest neighbor and our relations with it are historical. In view of this, representatives of both the countries agreed to take forward and strengthen their relations. He further said, ‘We have expressed our desire to India that we want to work with them to resolve all the issues as soon as possible.’
Vikram Misri highlighted India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh in the meeting. He also reiterated India’s desire to build relations between India and Bangladesh based on mutual trust and respect, and mutual sensitivity to the concerns and interests of both countries.
During this, Vikram Misri also expressed concern on behalf of India over the latest situation in Bangladesh and also raised the issue of security and welfare of minorities. Also expressed India’s concern to Bangladesh regarding attacks on Hindu temples and religious programs.
