Nagaland RS member calls for withdrawal of AFSPA in House

Nagaland People’s Front chief Ok G Kenye on Wednesday raised a requirement in Rajya Sabha for withdrawal of the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.

AFSPA, he stated, has introduced “nothing for this country, except (creating) animosity” amongst folks within the Northeast and in different elements of India. “It has taken a heavy toll on the unity and integrity of this country.. Ultimately the casualty is inflicted on the unity and integrity of this country,” he stated.

Raising the matter throughout Zero Hour, Kenye stated a number of MPs had expressed apprehension concerning the “misuse and abuse of special powers” when a draft regulation was debated in Parliament. It was this “grave danger” in visioning the results that might bear on this nation, they (MPs) had vehemently opposed the enactment” of AFSPA, he stated.
