The European Space Agency (ESA) has informed in its blog that the international team of astronomers has allowed emergency use of the James web telescope to inspect this dangerous esturoid.

Esteroid 2024 YRR4 was first seen by NASA in December 2024, when it was passing through our solar system. The size of this estroid is estimated to be about 180 feet (50 m) wide. If an Esteroid of this size collides with the Earth, it can destroy an entire city. One such incident took place in Siberia in the year 1908, when an Esteroid of this size destroyed 8 crore trees.

Real size estimate challenge
Scientists say that it is challenging to find out the actual size of Esteroids. Currently, this estroid has been inspected through the ground-tailiscope, but due to the effect of the Earth’s atmosphere, its actual size estimates could not be correct. This asteroid can actually be much larger than that.

Importance of size and potential threat
According to the ESA, its shape can be detected by the brightness of the asteroid, but to a great extent it depends on how much its surface is reflected. For example, this estroid can be 40 meters wide and very reflective, or 90 m wide and less refractor. There is a big difference between the danger of estteroids of 40 meters and 90 meters, so scientists are working on improving the exact estimate of this estroid size.

According to current estimates, Esteroid 2024 YR4 can be confronted with Earth in December 2032. This Esteroid can pass through a distance of 127,699 kilometers from the Earth, but it can be a difference of up to 1.4 million kilometers, making its possible conflict area uncertain. This possible conflict can affect the Pacific Ocean, South America, the Atlantic Ocean, Central Africa, and parts of northern India.
