NASA Parker Solar Probe Made History: NASA has once again created history. This time he has done something which is beyond imagination. In fact, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has achieved a feat which was almost impossible by reaching closest to the Sun. No spacecraft had done this before.

Parker Solar Probe is flying through the intense heat of the Sun’s outer atmosphere at a distance of 3.8 million miles (6.1 million kilometers) from the Sun. Traveling at speeds of up to 430,000 miles per hour and enduring temperatures of up to 982 degrees Celsius, Parker Solar Probe is on a mission to “touch” the Sun. NASA said that its purpose is to help better understand the causes of the sun’s heat as well as the stars.

No man-made object has ever passed this close.

According to scientists associated with the mission, no man-made object has ever passed so close to a star or the sun, so Parker will actually send data from an unknown area. Nick Pinkin, mission operations manager at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, explained in detail about this mission in NASA’s blog.

“Right now, Parker Solar Probe is flying closer to a star than it’s ever come before. It’s a moment to remember,” NASA official Nikki Fox said in a video posted on social media Tuesday morning. “

What will Parker Solar Probe do next?

Parker Solar Probe’s heat shield keeps its internal instruments near room temperature (85°F/29°C) as it searches for the solar corona. The probe will travel at a speed of 430,000 miles per hour (690,000 kilometers per hour), which is enough to reach from Washington DC to Tokyo in less than a minute.

Nick Pinkin, who oversees the mission at Johns Hopkins University, says Parker will bring back data from an unknown area. Apart from this, it is helping scientists understand the major mysteries of the Sun, such as the origin of the solar wind, the heat of the corona and the formation of coronal mass ejections. He told that it has seen comets, taken fascinating photographs and has also given information about Venus. Apart from this, its heat shield has to face a temperature of about 1,093 degrees Celsius.

Scientists said that the flyby, made at about 6:30 am on December 24, is the first of three close passes, the next two flybys will take it closer to the Sun. The second flyby will take place on 22 March 2025 and the third flyby on 19 June 2025. It was launched in 2018. Since launch, this spacecraft is gradually moving closer to the Sun. Scientists told that in simple words, we are 15 crore kilometers away from the Sun and now this spacecraft is only 62 lakh kilometers away from the Sun. 62 lakh km may sound quite far, but if you consider the Sun and the Earth as a base, keeping them at a distance of one meter, then Parker Solar Probe is at a distance of four centimeters from the Sun. That’s why scientists are calling it very close to the Sun.
