No intention of imposing lockdown for now: Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD: National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar on Thursday dominated out the potential of an instantaneous lockdown within the nation, regardless of the latest spike in new COVID-19 circumstances amid the fifth wave of the pandemic within the nation.

Speaking to Geo News, Asad Umar stated: “For now, we are closely monitoring the numbers from Pakistan and across the globe; we are emphasising on vaccinations.”

He highlighted that as a substitute of lockdowns, the federal government is specializing in ramping up vaccinations and strict implementation of the bans positioned earlier on sure actions if one just isn’t vaccinated.

‘Lack of vaccination in Karachi rising Omicron circumstances’

Coronavirus circumstances of the Omicron variant are going up in Karachi due to a scarcity of vaccinations, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Rasul advised Geo News at present.

On January 3, the Sindh authorities stated  50% of the province’s circumstances had turned out to be of the Omicron variant, particularly in Karachi.

Pakistan’s each day COVID-19 infections cross 1,000 mark

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s coronavirus positivity ratio exceeded 2% in a single day for the primary time since October 14 final 12 months, as 1,085 new infections have been detected over the last 24 hours, official knowledge for Thursday morning confirmed.

On October 14, 2021, the positivity ratio stood at 2.03%. Daily infections have crossed the 1,000-mark for the primary time since October 14.
