Power failure for three hours due to monkey

Sri Lankan Energy Minister Kumar Jaikodi said that a monkey has come into contact with the grid transformer of South Colombo on Sunday (9 February 2025), causing an imbalance in the system. According to the report of news agency AFP, he said that due to this, electricity was disrupted in the entire country for three hours. By 11:30 am, the supply of electricity restored in many parts of the country started again.

Electricity started in a few areas after three hours

Sri Lanka’s Energy Minister said that only one monkey had entered the grid and the engineers are working to supply electricity to other places in the country as soon as possible. This is not the first time that there is electricity blackout in Sri Lanka. When the country was going through an economic crisis in the year 2022, the people of Sri Lanka had to face power cuts for months, due to which many parts of the country were also demonstrated.
